This is orthodoxy without orthopraxy—belief without practice. We must genuinely believe that what we're reading is true, authoritative, and applicable to our lives.
Apply the Word. Jesus illustrated this with His parable of the two builders. One built his house on sand, hearing Jesus' words but not doing them. When storms came, his house collapsed. The other built on rock—hearing and doing what Jesus said. When the same storms came, his house stood firm. Application is crucial. We demonstrate what we truly believe by what we actually do.
The Whole Counsel of God
We can't treat Scripture like a cafeteria, picking the promises we like while ignoring the commands that challenge us. "I'm blessed in the city and in the field!" we declare, while conveniently overlooking the calls to obedience, sacrifice, and holiness that accompany those promises.
